Professional Experience

Partner and Corporate Counsel, The Clark Group, LLC (10/01 - Present)

The Clark Group is a Washington, D.C.-based strategic consulting firm that focuses on finding creative solutions to environmental challenges, state and federal lobbying, and strategic planning and policy development. The Clark Group is a consortium of senior-level policy professional who have worked at the highest levels of government.

Principal, The Kuehl Group (11/00 - 10/01)

The Kuehl Group is an independent consulting firm based in Sheridan, Wyoming which focuses on environmental and political consulting. Clients have included The Montana Democratic Party, Wyoming Conservation Voters, and the Wyoming Wildlife Federation.

Legislative Director, U.S. Senator Max Baucus (11/98 - 11/00)

Responsible for all legislative aspects of Senator Baucus' Washington, D.C. office. Advised Senator Baucus on a daily basis, helped formulate and implement Senator Baucus' legislative agenda, drafted and helped pass numerous amendments and pieces of legislation. Responsible for supervising a fifteen-person legislative operation on a daily basis. Senator Baucus is currently Chair of the U.S. Senate Finance Committee and senior member of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works.

Acting Chief of Staff, U.S. Senator Max Baucus (7/99 - 11/99)

Directed Senator Baucus' entire Washington, D.C. office and oversaw operations of seven state field offices. Responsible for coordinating activities of Senator Baucus' legislative, administrative, and media operations. Supervised staff of over thirty-five employees in eight offices.

Senior Legislative Aide, U.S. Senator Max Baucus (2/97 - 11/98)

Advised Senator Baucus on energy, natural resources, environmental and judiciary issues. Responsible for drafting legislation, preparing floor statements, and creating and implementing legislative strategies.

Staff Attorney, Greater Yellowstone Coalition (5/93 - 1/97)

Helped negotiate the settlement that prevented the New World gold mine from being constructed on the border of Yellowstone National Park. Worked with the White House, state and national environmental organizations, and the national media to implement a strategy that lead to the settlement that was approved by Congress in 1997.
