Climate Assessments: With over fifty-years of combined experience conducting environmental assessments for businesses and governments, The Clark Group is uniquely positioned to help our clients quantify the environmental effects of business operations and prioritize and implement cost-effective strategies to reduce a company’s environmental impacts. Critically for companies operating in today’s business environment, we can help make sure your company is “Climate Ready.”™ Having helped establish carbon trading markets and shaped policies that will become the nation’s climate laws, we can help make sure your company is reducing its green-house gas emissions in ways that will enhance your financial bottom line.

Green Design Charrettes: To help clients develop visionary conceptual designs and engage relevant stakeholders in the design process, The Clark Group coordinates green design charrettes on behalf of its clients. Through the design charrette process, The Clark Group is able to develop high-level conceptual designs in an expedited manner by bringing together stakeholders, project managers, and national experts in intensive one- and two-day processes.

What Sets Us Apart

Unlike architectural firms that may offer green building expertise exclusively in an architectural context, The Clark Group serves as a program integrator for visionary projects.

Think of us a sort of general contractor. Our firm works with some of the leading green building architecture companies in the United States. But beyond leveraging expertise in structural and mechanical elements of green buildings, The Clark Group is able to deploy a full suite of services to serve the complete range of our clients’ needs. From expertise in renewable energy and carbon offset markets, to sustainable transportation and food systems, to site planning and landscape design, The Clark Group helps its clients think holistically about both the structural and programmatic elements of design projects – helping configure teams and outcomes that ensure the highest levels of economic and environmental performance.

The Clark Group also has unparalleled expertise in helping improve the environmental performance of large-scale real estate portfolios. Ray Clark, Senior Partner for the firm, served as Acting Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Army responsible for environmental performance at army installations covering 16.7 million acres worldwide. Lisa Mahoney, a senior Associate with The Clark Group served as Director of Environmental Programs for the US-VISIT program and helped compile the environmental baseline assessment for 165 facilities along the U.S. borders with Mexico and Canada.

Some of Our Initiatives

Green Building Strategy Development in Atlanta: Working on behalf of a private developer, The Clark Group and Sloss Real Estate Corporation created a special partnership to help produce conceptual designs for a major green mixed-use development in Atlanta, Georgia and to think holistically about programmatic uses for the development including sustainable food sourcing, energy use, and transportation alternatives. For this project, The Clark Group and Sloss Real Estate convened a green design charrette at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design to help develop high-level front-end conceptual elements.

Sustainable Design Strategy for a University Expansion in Arizona: The Clark Group has been retained by a major university in Arizona to help with the conceptual design for a 160-acre expansion of the university’s campus. From helping develop strategies relating to water conservation and renewable energy to helping develop tenant mixes that will both be attracted to and contribute to a green campus, The Clark Group is leveraging its national expertise and relationships to promote development of a truly state-of-the-art green campus.

Environmental Review of U.S. Border Stations: The Clark Group was selected to conduct a national-level Programmatic Environmental Assessment for the Department of Homeland Security's U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The effort was to conduct a multi-disciplinary evaluation of the potential environmental impacts resulting from technological changes to hundreds of land and sea ports of entry throughout the United States. The Clark Group conducted interviews during site visits to identify site-specific concerns to inform the larger effort. Our team conducted the analysis, wrote a reader-friendly NEPA document, and led the public involvement and agency collaboration effort for the NEPA process.

Environmental Review of the New Las Vegas Airport: The Clark Group, LLC is part of the analysis team for the Southern Nevada Supplemental Airport EIS focusing on the new Las Vegas international airport. Part of a team of consultants providing specialized expertise to this complex, controversial, and multi-year EIS, The Clark Group has been retained to conduct the cumulative effects analysis for this project. The team, led by Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc., was awarded the $14.2 million contract by the Clark County Department of Aviation in part because of the their unprecedented success in expediting the EIS environmental review process required by the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) while still maintaining the highest standards for comprehensive environmental analysis.

Green Child Care and Green Affordable Housing Strategies: The Clark Group is presently assisting the Tulalip Tribes of Washington State with strategies relating to environmentally based child care initiatives and green affordable housing. By integrating environmental components into both the design and programmatic development of these projects, The Clark Group is helping to create projects with a minimal environmental footprint and better alignment with the Tribes’ cultural heritage.
